Contemporary and lyrical dance styles provide a perfect way for dancers to express themselves. They are very popular dance styles which allow a wonderful freedom of movement. Contemporary dance encompasses a range of different styles, it can be musical or more abstract and often utilises floor work. Lyrical dance is also a blend of ballet and jazz styles and often uses music with lyrics to inspire the meaning behind the movement. The dancer uses their emotion and movement to tell the story of the music through their dance. In both styles dancers will learn technique, sequences and choreography as well as developing strength and flexibility.
